Commissioning Of Poseidon

It was an all hands effort to get POSEIDON Division up to the numbers needed for Commissioning. The push started in the fall of 2008.  With new staff on board, systems and procedures were developed in accordance with USNSCC regulations that put POSEIDON on the right track to Commissioning. “We started to do all of the right things” states current Executive Officer LTJG Gorecki.

Poseidon’s Staff was the key to getting commissioned. Working as a team, they developed a recruiting system that walked a new recruit through the paperwork process all the way through the time they left for recruit training.  Formalizing this process allowed POSEIDON to handle more people and get everything done. POSEIDON then started doing the right things out in public.  Color Guards, Parades and other social/patriotic events exposed new people to POSEIDON and interest in the Sea Cadets rose.

By January 2009 Poseidon Division had reached commissioning status and their Annual Inspection had served as a Commissioning Inspection as well.  The Unit received the coveted “E” for excellence award for attaining a 3.5 on the inspection.  Poseidon received the Commissioning Warrant in February 2009 and the Commissioning Ceremony was held at the Forest Lake VFW in March 2009.
