Travel Guidelines:

Although transportation for cadets arriving via commercial air is the responsibility of the parent/unit, cadets arriving by commercial air MUST email their travel itineraries as soon as they are available and prior to arrival to LTJG Sime at co@poseidondivision.org. Please put MSMN Itinerary in the subject line.

Flights must arrive at MSP 0800-1400 on Saturday 28 JUL 2012
Departing Flights must depart Sunday 05 AUG 1700- 2200
The CO will not sign for you at the gate. Someone from the staff will pick you up at the Armed Forces Service Center at the airport.

Age Restrictions.
Be wary of allowing cadets to travel commercially unaccompanied or unescorted. We had instances in prior summers where commercial air travel arrangements were made for a cadet/cadets without consideration to the fact that the airline chosen would not allow under aged children to travel unescorted by an adult!!!! If parents or units arrange for unaccompanied commercial travel for cadets be sure to ask if the carrier will honor your arrangement. And, check with the airlines regarding boarding and deplaning regulations. While some airlines may allow the cadet to travel they might not allow the under aged cadet to wait unescorted in the boarding area before boarding the plane. Who then, on the return flight, will wait with your cadet to get them on the plane….COTC’s can’t do it because 1) they’re taking care of many, many other cadets and 2) they have no ticket and so can’t get beyond security to the boarding gate waiting area!!!!! THIS HAS HAPPENED AND IT IS THE CO AND PARENT RESPONSIBILITY (PARENTS FIRST) TO ENSURE THEIR CADET CAN PERFORM THE TRAVEL DESIRED.

There is a $25.00 charge for transportation from MSP to Camp Ripley and from Camp Ripley to MSP. $25.00 is for the round trip (Separate money order or combine with $200 to equal 225.00)
Cadets should travel in civilian clothes to and from MSMN Camp Ripley

Non Refundable Air Fares. Please be reminded that non-refundable airline fares are just that! And that includes payment of penalties by NHQ. We strongly encourage everyone to consider carefully the purchase of non-refundable tickets. By far, most of the time, most of the summer training evolutions occur as scheduled in the summer training schedule. But please understand that all training is dependent upon escort availability, host site accommodations, and host training sitesecurity measures in effect at the time of training and also subject to weather. Any training can be cancelled anytime! If escorts become unavailable due to emergency (and we can’t find a replacement), or operational commitments suddenly preclude our being able to use host site facilities, training can be cancelled at the last minute. Changes to non-refundable airline tickets incur a penalty that averages about $75 to $150. NSCC National Headquarters cannot reimburse for these penalties, regardless of reason.

MEDICAL CHECK-IN AND RESTRICTIONS:

While we want cadets to complete their training, safety is our primary concern. Advance preparation on the part of you and your home division staff will make this process go much more smoothly and quickly. We recommend that you review your service record and make sure the CURRENT VERSION of the following forms are completed properly and in your record. We will particularly look for:

  • Request for Training Authority (Cadet) (NSCTNG001,), current contact information for parents and alternate emergency contacts and parent initials/signatures in boxes 6a, 6b, 6c, 6d, & 9
  • Cadet Application (NSCADM001), parent signatures in boxes 8a & 9d on the back
  • Report of Medical History, Authorization, Consent, and Release (NSCADM020) all boxes will be reviewed to check for conditions that could affect the cadet’s safety and to make sure that a parent has initialed/signed appropriate boxes

MEDICATIONS: This is a medically friendly training. This means that cadets MAY be allowed to continue taking medications that they take regularly at home while at Advanced Trainings. Cadets DO NOT SELF-MEDICATE; all medicine will be confiscated by the Medical staff and your cadets will be given the opportunity to take their medication during scheduled sick call. The Medical History Supplemental, Authorization, Consent, and Release (NSCTNG025, must be be COMPLETELY filled out and signed by the parent and unit Commanding Officer. For prescription medication(s) the form must also be signed by the cadet’s medical provider. For over-the-counter medications the parent signature is sufficient, but be sure to note the medications listed on the NSCADM020; if the medication(s) are listed there, the NSCTNG025 will not be required. The originals of these forms must be in the service record, and in addition A COPY OF THE NSCADM020 AND NSCTNG025 MUST BE SUBMITTED IN ADVANCE TO THE COTC.
